Code of Conduct Policy

At Open Minds Secular Homeschool Co-op, we strive to create an accepting, respectful, and fun learning atmosphere. These rules and expectations are outlined to foster the positive environment we want to maintain. Parents should review these rules with all children. You can download a copy of the policy to print and sign here.

Expectations and Rules For Students

We show respect for each other and ourselves.

  • We are kind and considerate of other students, teachers, and adults.
  • Disruptive behavior that interferes with the learning environment is not allowed.
  • Name calling, derogatory language, and offensive gestures are not permitted.
  • Bullying behaviors (spitting, hitting, kicking, insulting, etc.) are not allowed.
  • Do not use foul or offensive language.
  • Keep your hands to yourself.
  • In class, do not talk when the teacher is talking.
  • Do not leave designated areas without permission (no running away!)

We take care of our rental facility, school property, and the property of others.

  • Do not deface or damage the building or property in any way.
  • Treat school property and materials with respect.
  • Do not take or damage other students’ property.
  • Gum is not allowed in the building or anywhere on the property.
  • Place all trash and recycling in appropriate containers.

If these rules are violated, Open Minds teachers reserve the right (based on intention and impact of student actions) to have the student temporarily removed from class or prohibit the student from returning to the program. We reserve the right to enforce a zero-tolerance policy for running away, violence towards others, or destruction of property. In extreme situations, if we deem it necessary to expel the student, no refund will be given.

General Parent/Guardian Expectations

  • Arrive on time. Classes begin promptly at 10:00 AM. Be available for pickup at 1:30 PM.
  • Parent/guardian participation is mandatory (up to three volunteer days per family).
  • Parent/guardian volunteers will address all students with respect and courtesy.
  • We follow the inclement weather policy of Gwinnett County School System. If classes are are canceled due to weather, we will contact you by email and/or text, but we ask that you also check local news for Gwinnett County’s weather-related closures.
  • Please don’t bring sick children to class. Please make sure your child has been fever free for at least 24 hours before class. Vaccinations: We encourage folks to vaccinate. However, we realize vaccination is a choice and that some people cannot receive vaccinations. We remind you that many homeschoolers are not in public educational institutions because of the critical impact that communicable diseases may have on their health. With that said, it is our policy that parents keep their children at home as soon as they suspect they are sick, especially if they are not vaccinated. We also do not allow anyone to bring their child to class within 21 days of intentional disease exposure (i.e. pox parties).
  • We reserve the right to ask your child not to return if they consistently disturb the learning environment.
  • Once the session starts, no refunds will be given.

Lunchtime Rules & Reminders for Volunteers

  • All Expectations and Rules for Students apply to lunchtime as well.
  • Students must be supervised at all times.
  • Students should not share or trade food due to allergies.
  • All lunch trash must be picked up.
  • End lunch break 5 minutes early to send students to the restroom to wash hands.
